Capital One is adding a sizable travel credit to its standard Venture Rewards bonus. New cardholders can currently earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 within the first three months, plus a $300 credit for hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel.

The card has a $95 annual fee.

Here’s what makes the current offer notable:

• 75,000 bonus miles: Spend $4,000 in the first three months to earn the welcome bonus. Capital One says the offer is currently available on its site.

• $300 stays credit: The additional credit can be used for eligible hotel and vacation rental bookings through Capital One Travel. It expires one year after account opening, so it isn’t an ongoing annual credit.

• 2 miles per dollar: The Venture Rewards earns unlimited 2X miles on everyday purchases, while hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel earn 5X.

• 15+ transfer partners: Capital One miles can be transferred to more than 15 airline and hotel loyalty programs, giving travelers another way to use the rewards beyond the Capital One portal.

• Useful travel perks: The card also offers an up-to-$120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, car rental coverage, no foreign transaction fees and other protections.

There are eligibility rules to watch. Capital One says applicants aren’t eligible for the bonus if they’ve received a new-cardmember bonus on the Venture or Venture X within the previous 48 months.

The $300 credit is also more restrictive than some previous versions of the offer: it can’t be used for flights or rental cars.

The smarter take: The headline offer is 75,000 miles, but the unusual part is the extra $300 stays credit. If you already expect to book a hotel or vacation rental through Capital One Travel during your first year, that restriction may be easier to work around.
