American Airlines is saying goodbye to its international Flagship First cabin, replacing it with a larger business-class product built around privacy, lie-flat seats and more premium availability.
• First class is disappearing. American will stop selling Flagship First on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft starting November 19, with international first class ending across the airline by March 28, 2027.
• The new top cabin is Flagship Suite. Retrofitted 777-300ERs now feature 70 business-class Flagship Suite seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. That’s a major expansion from the eight Flagship First and 52 business-class seats previously offered.

• Privacy is a major upgrade. The new suites have fully closing privacy doors, while center seats feature retractable dividers. Eight Flagship Suite Preferred seats also retain premium touches from the former first-class experience, including larger ottomans and a swivel chair.
• More travelers get premium perks. Flagship Suite passengers have access to Flagship Dining, priority airport services and Flagship Lounge access where available. Preferred passengers receive additional amenities, including pajamas and Joanna Vargas skincare products.
• The entire aircraft gets an upgrade. Every passenger now has a personal entertainment screen, while AAdvantage members receive free Wi-Fi sponsored by AT&T.
The Smarter Take: American isn’t simply eliminating first class—it’s moving toward more premium business-class seats with first-class-style features. For travelers who care about privacy and lie-flat seating, the new Flagship Suites could offer a more accessible way to experience American’s highest-tier international product.
